Digital Transformation

Identifying the right path to digital transformation can be difficult.  Expede works with universities and colleges to explore the benefits and challenges of digital transformation, to ensure the use of technology improves both the organisation’s and its student (customers) experience, and reduces costs.

Digital transformation is the process by which organisations embed technologies, and the policies and processes of their use, in order to operate effectively and drive fundamental change. As organisations look to integrate digital technology into every aspect of the business, a focused digital transformation change management strategy covering digitisation, modernisation, management and responding to the rapid development of new technology is key.

Examples of recent projects include:

  • Digital Transformation- Evaluate the ability of a university’s IT systems to support the delivery of programmes at scale with a commercial Chinese partner on a new joint campus site in the UK.
  • Data Futures– Created and managed the programme of work to support the business and system change to deliver on the university commitments to HEFCE and Office for Students while improving the governance, data quality and access to student data.
  • Apprenticeships Management– Develop business case and solution design for a university-wide end-to-end Apprenticeship Management System. Expansion of the Apprenticeship offering was at the heart of the university strategy for increasing revenue. This included forming an apprenticeships student journey and ensuring they had appropriate systems and processes to support them as students.
  • Project Foundation- Creation of the business case and programme plan to improve the student experience by supporting business and system changes in areas of student services, student records, engagement, disabilities, recruitment, and support. The aim was to achieve this by adapting, improving, or replacing technology and processes at many stages of the student lifecycle from recruitment to alumni.
  • Customer Relationship Management (CRM)- Business case, tender and selection of a CRM system to underpin Student Recruitment, Student Services and Widening Participation.
  • Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)- This programme covered both technology and changes in academic practice to improve the student experience and drive consistency of standards in teaching across all faculties. It included the creation of the business case, requirements gathering and coordination of discussion to create new academic practice standards and principles.
