Estate Facilities

Expede Consulting are experts in working with universities and colleges to lead and support on complex Estates facilities projects, linked to strategic outcomes, organisational design and effective change management. We advise on using a combined projects and working practices approach for developing estate facilities, focusing on the business needs and IT to develop, design and deliver strategic change projects.

Recent years have seen changes including new technologies, the requirement to meet net-zero targets, and enhance the wellbeing of the organisation, in how physical space is used to deliver teaching, and how staff and student areas may require to be adapted to enable new ways of working. Universities and colleges are modernising their estate, opening additional campuses, installing new technology and developing their strategic Estate plans.

Examples of recent projects include:

  • Innovation Centre– The delivery of the service design and transition phases of a Research Hub encompassing 129,000-sq-ft of research laboratories, a Cleanroom and Electron Microscopy Facility.
  • London Campus– Developed the strategic direction and outline budgets for the digital elements of a new London Campus.
  • Library and Multi-Use Spaces- Coordination and delivery of the stakeholder requirements in the design phase of a multi-million pound building to transform the learning experience for students and act as a gateway to the University for residents and businesses.
  • Estates Management System– Combining into a single solution – a £100+ million capital investment plan, Estates operational processes and the provision of improved management oversight of workflow processes.
  • Teaching Spaces- Design, agreement and approval of new standards. Business case and phase 1 rollout to 400+ teaching spaces. The University was nominated for a Guardian Higher Education award for this project and the supplier won two commercial industry awards.
